Frequently asked questions
What is CineSketch?
An online storyboarding studio for film and TV. Organize projects into scenes and shots, draw each shot on a layered canvas, and use AI to refine your sketches from rough pencil all the way to photoreal — keeping a consistent style and consistent characters across the whole board.
Do I need to be able to draw?
No. A crude sketch is enough — CineSketch's AI turns it into a finished frame at whatever fidelity you choose. You stay in control of the composition; the tool handles the rendering.
How do credits work?
Each plan includes a monthly allotment of credits, and every image generation costs exactly 1 credit — from rough sketch to photoreal, on every plan. Bigger plans include more credits at a lower price per credit and unlock more of the toolset (photoreal, Unitize, collaborators). If a generation fails, the credit is returned automatically; the one exception is a request blocked by our content rules.
What are characters?
Design a character once, in their final look. That one image becomes their reference in every style, from rough sketch to photoreal. Mention them with @name in a shot description and they stay consistent — same face, hair and build — in every shot you generate. Give them outfits and write @name (outfit) to change what they're wearing.
My drawing and my description disagree — which one wins?
The description. Your drawing sets the shot: the framing, the poses and where things sit in the frame. But a sketch can only hint at detail — a stick figure can't tell the AI who it is, what they're wearing or which way round two people should stand. When your words spell something out ("@Eleanor on the left", "she's in a red coat", @name for a character), CineSketch treats that as your clearest instruction and follows it, even if the drawing suggests otherwise. So if a Redraw moves someone or changes their clothes, check the description first. To keep what you drew, leave it out of the text or describe it the same way.
What does 'Unitize' do?
It brings every shot in a project into one style. Pick the style you want, and every shot that isn't already in it is redrawn to match. Shots already in that style are skipped free, and you can leave out any shot you like. A board drawn over weeks in different moods ends up reading like one artist drew it. Available on Creator Plus and Studio plans.
Why did a Redraw say my image came back unchanged?
Occasionally an AI image model hands back the picture it was given instead of a new one — it happens most when a shot is asked to keep its composition very strictly. CineSketch checks every Redraw and Unitize result against the image it started from. If it's essentially the same, that attempt isn't charged, and CineSketch tells you it's trying again and has another go with a different AI model. If the second try comes back unchanged too, you'll see a message saying so — and you still aren't charged. Adding more direction, or picking a different style, usually gets it moving. Tweak is different: its changes are meant to be small and targeted, so it isn't checked this way, and a Tweak uses its credit even when the change is subtle. Tweak also can't bring in a character (it only sees the one image), so if you @mention one there, CineSketch stops you before anything is charged and points you to Redraw.
Can my team collaborate?
Yes, on Creator Plus and Studio plans. Invite collaborators by email, staff them onto specific projects, and edit shots without clashing — a shot is locked to one editor at a time and released when they're done. You can also promote a collaborator to producer on a project (one producer on Creator Plus, as many as you like on Studio), delegating its day-to-day management while you keep billing and final say.
Can I export my storyboard?
Yes — export any project to a print-ready PDF, choosing how many boards per row to suit your paper size.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can downgrade or cancel from your account at any time. Your plan runs to the end of the billing month; we don't offer pro-rata refunds.
